NSE U MAY 24

Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Sunday announced its candidate for the Nilgiri Assembly seat and made changes in the nominees for five other Assembly constituencies in Odisha.

Akshaya Acharya has been nominated to contest from Nilgiri constituency in Balasore district, as confirmed by a press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Besides, the party has made changes in its candidates for Jalwswar, Bari, Athamallik, Athagarh and Puri Assembly seats. Former minister Debasis Nayak, who recently joined the Congress, will now contest from the Bari Assembly seat. Nayak’s switch from BJP to Congress came after he was denied a ticket by BJP, where he had served as a four-time MLA.

Moreover, the party has replaced candidates in other constituencies: Sudarshan Das will replace Debi Prasanna Chand in Jaleswar, Himanshu Chaulia will take the place of Bijayananda Chaulia in Athamalik, Sudarshan Sahoo will replace Maheboob Ahemad Khan in Athagarh, and Uma Ballav Rath will take over the ticket from Sujit Mohapatra for the Puri Assembly segment.

It is worth noting that Congress has named Jay Narayan Patnaik as its candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat after Sucharita Mohanty withdrew from the race citing shortage of funds.
