DC has adopted the bike lane plan for Connecticut Ave. deleted. Lawmakers want it back.

In 2021, DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) announced plans for a 4.4-mile bike path that would run from Calvert Street NW in Woodley Park to Legation Street NW in Chevy Chase. The plan – backed by cycling advocates and intended to increase cycling safety – was estimated to cost $7.7 million, and would have eliminated more than 300 parking spaces and halved vehicle lane capacity. Business owners opposed it, claiming the lane would impact their customers. A DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) official told lawmakers last month that the plan had been scuttled.
