Rogue firefighting goats wander into Rancho Palos Verdes backyard – NBC Los Angeles

Hundreds of grazing goats have apparently wandered from their work in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Someone called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department around noon Tuesday to report that the goats, which had been instructed to eat vegetation to reduce potential fuels for wildfires, had broken through a gate and gathered in the backyard of a homeowner in the 6100 block of Arrowroot Lane.

A few minutes later, officers arrived and a goat handler was on site. The goats were eventually rounded up and driven off the property.

Goats are deployed in several wildfire-prone communities in Southern California to eat dry brush that could otherwise become fuel for wildfires.
