Watch: Lionel Messi breaks MLS record in 6-2 win over New York Redbulls

Lionel Messi stole the show in Inter Miami’s huge 6-2 win over New York Red Bulls, contributing a ridiculous six goals in the second half alone.

It was the New York team that went into halftime with a 1-0 lead thanks to Dante Vanzeir’s close finish in the 30th minute. The Belgian’s goal gave them the chance for an impressive away win, but unfortunately for them, Messi and Co had other ideas.

The Argentinian’s first assist came in the 48th minute, passing it on to Matia Rojas, who scored a sublime goal from outside the box.

Both players then combined again, this time with Messi scoring and Rojas assisting to put the home side ahead in the 50th minute.

Luis Suarez then came into action and scored a hat-trick, all assisted by partner-in-crime Messi, in just 12 minutes. New York Red Bulls did get a late consolation goal, but were already on the run.

Messi has now become the first player in MLS history to register five assists in a single match.
