IPL2024 | Twitter got worried when Shivam Dube left for back-to-back golden ducks after World Cup selection

It’s not easy to maintain a consistent streak of performances over a long period of time. Something similar happened with Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube, who failed to hit the mark in back-to-back matches against Punjab Kings after his selection in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the US.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first worked well for the Punjab Kings as the spinners came into the attack after the powerplay. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell stabilized the early setback with a 57-run second-wicket partnership, the introduction of Rahul Chahar in the eighth turned the table, leading to a Shivam Dube golden duck on the trot.

Dube was trapped in front by Harpreet Brar the last time they faced each other in Chepauk. In his next match, Chahar bowled a length delivery outside off stump which the southpaw tried to cut without much foot movement. Dube eventually got an edge on the googly thanks to some extra bounce, with Jitesh Sharma taking a regular catch. When the all-rounder was dismissed for golden ducks in consecutive matches against the same opponent, following his selection in the World Cup squad, the Twitterverse exploded.

Another!
